4th Annual Flying Farangs Open Charity Golf Tournament – Saturday, August 25th in Pattaya

August 1, 2007

ff-open4-07-08-25_thumb.jpg

Dear All,

I’d like to give you some advanced notice about the 4th Annual Flying Farangs Open Charity Golf Tournament, which is coming up on Saturday, August 25th at Phoenix Golf & Country Club in Pattaya.  The Flying Farangs Open will take over all 27 holes of Phoenix G&CC for a 12’noon shotgun start. This will be an excessively fun charity golf tournament followed by a beachfront buffet banquet hosted by Raimon Land at their Northpoint condos in Pattaya!

The Flying Farangs Open uses a 2-player Scramble format to promote a fun and relaxed day of golf.  Lots of beers and BQQ’d food on the course doesn’t hurt either! Last year’s event was a complete sell-out and we expect this year’s tournament to top all previous Flying Farangs golfing spectacles.

Besides being a tremendous good time, we’re proud of the fact that the tournament raises much-needed funds for both the Thai Fund Foundation and the development of the Hockey program in Thailand; this success depends heavily on everyone’s support.  Please make every effort to join us on August 25th and invite as many of your friends who might enjoy the golf &/or the party!!!

Attached are the tournament poster and the Registration Letter, with all the details about the 4th Annual Flying Farangs Open Charity Golf Tournament, including an Entry Form for players to fill out. Please pass this message around to anyone and everyone who might be interested. I look forward to seeing you in Pattaya!

Sincerely,

John Casella

Mekong Cup 2007 – Saturday, April 28th, 2007 (Ball Hockey)

January 17, 2007

Gentlemen, I have recently received a spate of messages asking about the date for the 2007 edition of the Mekong Cup. I take this interest as an encouraging sign that MC’07 is already a highly anticipated event, since we normally don’t even start discussing the tournament’s date until January!

So I have gone to the trouble of consulting my farmers’ almanac, various astrological charts, and the Bank of Thailand’s official list of public holidays to consider what date will be most suitable for hosting this year’s tournament. After inputting all the data into Churchill Pryce’s mainframe computer, the gizmo at the back spat out a punch card which read “Saturday, April 28th, 2007.” This will be the first time that we hold the event in April, since it’s typically the first or second weekend of May (i.e., in May, the hotel will let us in at the same low-season rates that we’ve enjoyed every year). The date should be as early as possible to minimize the likelihood of rains, tsunamis, coup d’etets, etc. The reason for wanting to bring the tournament forward is because Saturday, May 5th is “Coronation Day” in Thailand, which you might know is a “dry” holiday honouring the highly revered King of the Kingdom (
Please note: DRY HOLIDAY = bars will be closed = we’re better to consider another date). Saturday, May 13th is a likely to conflict with the KL International Ice Hockey Tournament, so we’re better to avoid being too close to the KL tournament. Finally, an April 28th tournament will give most people an opportunity to turn the MC2007 into a long weekend in Phuket if you take the Monday off work, since Tuesday, May 1st is “Labor Day” across
Asia.

I’ve received confirmation from the Amari that they will give us the same great rates, as follows:      Bht 2,600.- nett inclusive buffet breakfast for single room      Bht 2,800.- nett inclusive buffet breakfast for double/twin room      Bht 4,000.- nett inclusive buffet breakfast for triple room They’ve raised the price for the lunch and dinner by a bit more than $1 and $2, respectively. So once I’ve sat down to do the budget I’ll let you know whether the price of the entry fee will jump from $50 to $55 (it probably will go up to $55, since the Baht continues to appreciate against the USD).

So mark Saturday, April 28th, 2007 on your calendars and plan your training schedules early.  Mekong Cup 2007 is only 177 days away!!! Cheers, John Casella

Canadian Graduates Association Malaysia Hockey Night in Malaysia – Wed 22nd Nov

October 17, 2006

This is an email from ‘Canadian Graduates Association Malaysia :: Members Portal’

Message:

Dear Members,

After our recent events, we have received suggestions of activities that we should hold. One such event proposed is a “Hockey Night in Malaysia”.

The proposed venue is at the Sunway Pyramid.

The event would comprise of a dinner buffet (starting around 8pm) at the rink where people can eat and mingle with the hockey players followed by watching hockey games. The date suggested is on Nov 22.

As organizing event like this entails a lot of work, we are fortunate to have a few volunteers stepping forward to organize it. However, we need to gauge the response from members to see if such an event would interest them and whether it is viable for us to organize.

I therefore encourage you to indicate whether you would be interested to attend this Hockey Night as your feedback is very important.

You can reply to this email or send me an email at alan@warrantscapital.com to give me your feedback.

Thank you.

IndoChine Cobras put a smile on some orphans

October 14, 2006

Hi All,

I’d like to thank Smart Ice and Mid Valley Shopping Mall for inviting the IndoChine Cobras to help launch their ‘Skate for Joy’ project for some 600 orphans around the Klang Valley.

The Cobras that graciously volunteered their Saturday morning for these kids all enjoyed themselves (I know I did).  It was great to see smiles on both the kids and the Cobras.

The following Cobras (and Wildcats) deserve a big thanks:

- Ronald Fauvel

- Brian Pedersen

- Albert Terry

- Chris Martison

- Tony Ryan (with Chase and Jackson)

- Youki Sai

- Marko Nykanen

- Steven Tan (KHAS President)

- Gary Tan (Wildcats)

- Bazli (Wildcats)

Please see the attached article that was published on Xfresh about the event (indochine-cobras-charity.pdf).

Again, thanks to all for your support and kindness.
